Product Packaging: A Women’s Affair…

At terre d’Oc, product packaging is much more than just a step in the production process: it is a combination of work carried out by hand, as it always has been, and the use of industrial machinery, all handled by a 100% female team.

Twelve dynamic and committed women make up this high-performing team, bringing dexterity, versatility and dedication, with each one contributing her professionalism at every stage of the product packaging process.

Missions and responsibilities

Under the supervision of Valérie, Packaging Workshop Manager, and Aude, Production and Planning Manager, the employees are responsible for a wide range of tasks throughout the product packaging process, working primarily from production orders. Whether for organic cosmetics, organic tea, natural home fragrances or organic essential oils, every stage of the packaging process is carried out with the utmost care and in accordance with established procedures.

Manual packaging brings an authentic touch to each product, bearing the personal mark of the employee who prepared it. It requires organisation, patience, efficiency and speed: “A truly varied range of tasks,” explains Virginie, an operator who has been working at terre d’Oc for more than 20 years.

Alongside manual packaging, terre d’Oc also uses technology to meet customer demand for larger and more specific volumes. Automated and semi-automated machines ensure precision and efficiency.

However, far from replacing manual work, these machines support the employees, freeing up time for other tasks such as internal training and meetings.

"I am proud to contribute to making products that bring well-being and satisfaction to our customers," Valérie, Packaging Workshop Manager, tells me.

A people-focused approach to business…

terre d’Oc is committed to valuing its employees and providing them with good working conditions. Regular training helps them develop their skills, while ergonomic improvements make their daily work easier. In 2024, terre d’Oc won the Alim’Acteurs Award, recognising good HR practices.

Training

Employees benefit from regular training: technical training, safety training (including forklift certification), CSR training (digital sustainability workshops, eco-design, etc.), as well as e-learning courses accessible to everyone and internal training. Workshop managers have created a skills matrix to offer training programmes that match each employee’s responsibilities and ensure that every employee receives at least one training course every two years.

Annualised working hours

This system makes it possible to manage fluctuations in workload throughout the year and adjust working hours to production needs, while allowing everyone to organise their working time.

The 5S initiative: a great achievement

The 5S methodology is a workplace management approach designed to improve organisation, efficiency and safety. When applied to a packaging workshop, a 5S initiative can bring significant benefits. It was introduced in 2021 by the workshop employees and their managers, Aude and Valérie. Everyone benefits from it:

- A clearer, less cluttered working environment, making it easier to move around and reducing the risk of accidents,

- A clean and pleasant working environment,

- Better organisation at work thanks to 5S processes.
