Evening Routines: How to Relax Before Bedtime
After a busy or even hectic day, it is essential to relax before going to bed to promote restful sleep. Preparing your body and mind for sleep is important. terre d’Oc shares a few simple tips you can put into practice at home to establish an evening routine that encourages you to fall asleep.
#1 For your evening routine, avoid using screens such as tablets, phones or computers
Watching television or using a computer or mobile phone can make it harder to relax or fall asleep. The blue light emitted by these devices can disrupt your sleep.
So, make sure to take a proper break between using these devices and going to bed. Turn off screens at least one hour before bedtime.
And for those who enjoy reading, choosing a good book rather than a screen can be an excellent way to calm the mind without overstimulating the senses before sleep.
#2 Take a few minutes to meditate: an excellent evening routine
Before going to bed, it is recommended to engage in relaxing activities such as relaxation exercises, meditation or reading. These activities help calm the mind and unwind before going to bed.
So, take a few moments to practise a simple and easy guided meditation: a soothing evening routine that helps you let go and promotes an overall sense of well-being.
How do you get started?
- Search online for a free guided meditation (there are many to choose from, so find the one that suits you best).
- Make yourself comfortable in a quiet and peaceful place.
- Follow the instructions of the guided meditation and let go. Just a few minutes of meditation can help calm the mind, release tension and improve your mood.
By practising this simple meditation regularly, you can strengthen your ability to stay focused and sleep better.
Sleep is the golden thread that connects health and serenity.
#3 Create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere to unwind: a true evening routine
It is also important to create an environment that is conducive to sleep. To establish a true evening routine, arrange your sleeping space to encourage relaxation. Choose soothing colours, soft textiles and a comfortable pillow. Opt for soft, dim lighting rather than bright lights.
You can also create a soothing and beneficial olfactory atmosphere with natural home fragrances, an ethical range created in Haute Provence.
terre d’Oc natural fragrances come in 4 scents, carefully created in our workshops in Provence:
Ori Maohi, monoi flower: a warm and sun-kissed fragrance with enveloping floral notes on a base of vanilla and coconut.

Nerolina, orange blossom: an infinitely delicate floral fragrance with a base of musk and cedarwood.
Udani, cotton and white tea: a soft, comforting fragrance blended with exquisite notes of apricot, rose and violet on a powdery base of vanilla musk.
terre d’Oc natural scented candles are an excellent way to add a soothing touch to your home.
If you want to create a warm and cosy atmosphere, a terre d’Oc scented candle will bring you a soft glow and a subtle fragrance that invites you to unwind.
Come and discover these fragrances!
A few minutes are all it takes to fill your home with a comforting scent for ultimate relaxation.
#4 Drinking tea in the evening: a good or bad idea for your evening ritual?
Drinking tea before going to bed may disrupt your sleep due to the caffeine naturally present in tea.
However, to avoid sleepless nights while still enjoying a cup of tea in the evening, choose teas that are naturally low in caffeine, such as terre d’Oc organic Oolong or terre d’Oc organic Genmaicha, a Bancha green tea blended with roasted rice grains. These teas are naturally low in caffeine.
Another option is to follow this little tip from terre d’Oc for enjoying tea in the evening. Caffeine is one of the first compounds to be released from tea leaves into hot water.
Simply rinse the tea leaves with a first infusion and discard it after 30 seconds. The second infusion will contain much less caffeine while retaining the tea’s flavour. This helps reduce the tea’s stimulating effects.
You can then enjoy a cup of tea before going to bed!
#5 Which herbal infusion should you choose to help you sleep?
Which one is best for your evening routine?
To help you fall asleep, it is also recommended to enjoy an herbal infusion before going to bed. Whether you need to unwind after a day at work, improve the quality of your sleep or simply enjoy a moment just for yourself, terre d’Oc organic herbal infusions are perfect for meeting your needs.
Take some time for yourself and prepare a cup of herbal tea. Simple herbal infusions with multiple benefits, such as lemon balm or peppermint, have soothing properties that can help you fall asleep more easily.
These infusions are ideal after a meal or before bedtime to unwind and prepare for a peaceful night’s sleep.

#6 A soothing read for your evening routine
Reading a book or magazine before bed can be an excellent way to relax. Choose light and enjoyable topics, avoiding anything too serious.
And if you tend to get carried away by reading, decide in advance how much time you want to dedicate to this evening ritual. This will help you avoid going to bed too late and struggling to fall asleep. Reading something soothing can be a pleasant escape after a busy day. A simple routine to adopt whenever you have a little time for yourself!
As you can see, to relax before going to bed, it is essential to establish an evening routine that encourages falling asleep and promotes quality sleep.
By adopting good habits and making time for relaxation, you can enjoy a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling rested and refreshed.
Now it’s your turn!
