Angélique LECOMTE and Les Monocyclettes

It all began with the terre d'Elles competition in 2020, created by terre d'Oc during the Covid pandemic to support female entrepreneurship and help women bring their projects to life. The competition recognises a woman leading a project with a positive social, societal and environmental impact.

Among the many inspiring and impactful projects received by terre d'Oc, the jury selected Angélique Lecomte's project, Les Monocyclettes: designing clothing, lingerie and accessories to help women embrace their bodies after the asymmetry caused by a mastectomy. Angélique was supported throughout her project by our teams and partners through expert consultancy vouchers, coaching, networking opportunities and financial assistance.

Redefining Femininity After a Mastectomy…

In her village of La Bastide-des-Jourdans, Angélique Lecomte, a nurse by profession, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 at the age of 35. To fight the disease, she underwent a mastectomy. As breast reconstruction was not an option due to radiotherapy and a high risk of recurrence, Angélique had to wait two years, during which she learned to live with her new body and its asymmetry. Like 70% of women, Angélique chose not to undergo breast reconstruction or wear an external breast prosthesis. She therefore had to rethink her wardrobe. Creating feminine, comfortable clothing specially designed to adapt to body asymmetry soon became her life's mission.

In 2020, she launched her micro-business, Les Monocyclettes, a post-mastectomy lingerie brand offering modular, customisable and ergonomic single-cup bras. Les Monocyclettes is a world-first concept in asymmetrical lingerie, specially designed to meet the needs of women after a mastectomy, gently enhancing and embracing body asymmetry.

The collection includes sexy single-cup bras that are comfortable to wear, with or without an external breast prosthesis, as well as nightwear.

The brand embraces attractive colours and feminine designs, allowing women to rediscover the pleasure of wearing lingerie. Passionate about crystal healing, Angélique also offers a selection of natural gemstone jewellery through her online boutique, designed to bring comfort and femininity during and after treatment, while helping to ease certain treatment-related side effects.

Every woman is strong, beautiful, radiant and extraordinary…

Angélique explains: "Some women wear their external breast prosthesis day and night, others only for work, while others proudly embrace their scars. The idea is to offer them a product that adapts to their needs and evolves with them."

And the finishing touch? Angélique also offers colourful, graphic and symbolic temporary tattoos to help women celebrate their bodies, regain confidence and redefine their femininity.

Having worked for many years as a psychiatric nurse, Angélique also trained as an image consultant to offer a creative and empowering approach focused on self-esteem, self-confidence and the way women perceive themselves through the eyes of others, helping them redefine their identity.

Because illness transforms not only the body, but also the mind. It affects every aspect of a woman's life, from her relationships and family life to her career and social life. Reclaiming one's place and redefining who you are are essential steps towards restoring purpose and moving forward.

Through this programme, women learn to embrace and dress their new silhouette using tools such as colour analysis, body shape assessment, personal styling and wardrobe editing. They also reconnect with themselves, their needs and their aspirations. Every technique developed by Angélique is designed to help women feel like themselves again, embracing their femininity by choosing colours that enhance them, clothing that suits their body shape, strengthening their self-confidence and empowering them to embrace their uniqueness. Angélique's blog is also a valuable source of information, where women affected by breast cancer can discover recipe ideas, health advice, style tips and much more.

Angélique Lecomte's story and her brand are an extraordinary example of resilience and female entrepreneurship. She transformed a deeply personal and painful experience into an opportunity to help other women rediscover their femininity.
